psi-focus assumption

The psi-focus assumption holds that a sender and a receiver in a psi experiment increase the chances of psi transmission by concentrating on a target.

Since it is not known how psi works, it is not known whether psi is always spontaneous and passively received (and hence any concentration is pointless) or whether psi may be channeled by mental intention to send or receive information telepathically. Most experiments in telepathy and psychokinesis, however, assume that mental intention is essential to the transfer of information or energy by the mind alone.
