Date - October 2, 2007, Read by Swoopy.
This week concludes our coverage of skeptics and scientists at Dragon*Con 2007.
We have the video available now of the Skeptic Smackdown debate.
Video Credit Goes To: Andy Vetromile
The original believers for the debate were to be Sci-Fi channel's Ghost Hunters.
Due to necessary changes in scheduling the Ghost Hunters declined to participate.
Instead Court TV's Patrick Burns and Graham Watkins stepped up for the Believers.
Dr. Michael Shermer and Alison Smith took the stage for the Skeptics.
We now have the video available of the debate. (See Below for details)
You can also see the video parts on YouTube.
Alison Smith is relatively new to Skepticism.
Like Jeff Wagg of the JREF, she realized what she wanted to do and dug right in.
We have evidence that Jeff Wagg is too sexy for his shirt. So sexy..it hurts.
Alison now helps administer the Million Dollar Challenge in her roll as an intern with the JREF.
When Alison began debunking Ghost Hunters footage, she took her evidence to TAPS.
The Ghost Hunters organization removed her from their message board.
SAPS was born out of a need for a group to provide in depth skeptical investigation.
The goal of SAPS is not to disprove paranormal phenomena, but more specifically the methods used in obtaining proof.
Alison has procured the same equipment that the Ghost Hunters use on the show.
Many of these tools are not meant for paranormal detection.
I wonder if Alton Brown finds ghosts in his kitchen using the infrared thermometer?
SAPS has links to studies and surveys about paranormal beliefs.
These surveys show that young people are gaining an interest in the paranormal.
This increased interest is attributed to the popularity of the Ghost Hunters.
Alison would like SAPS to start looking into other kinds of paranormal activity.
You can contact Alison through email, or through the SAPS website.
